Sevalaya Nilgiris conducts Smokeless Bhogi Awareness Rally at Gudalur Sevalaya Nilgiris organised its Annual Smokeless Bhogi Rally on 12 Jan 2026 at Gudalur to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by the harmful practice of burning of wastes to celebrate Bhogi festival.

The rally took place from the Gudalur Municipal Office to the Bus Stand. Municipal Commissioner, M Sakthivel and Chairperson- Gudalur Municipality, Parimala S flagged off the rally.

In his speech, Municipal Commissioner Sakthivel said that it was important to celebrate a Smokeless Bhogi considering the difficulties faced by children, elders and sick
people.

Municipal Chairperson, Parimala in her speech urged the public to avoid usage of plastics while celebrating the Pongal festival. More than 100 participants including doctors and employees of Sevalaya Nilgiris’ Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, students from Sevalaya’s Community College and Government Plantation Workers Industrial Training Institute, along with sanitation workers took part in the rally and spread awareness about the importance of protecting the environment among members of the public.


V Thiruselvam, Centre Head, Sevalaya Nilgiris delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guests, participants and the Police department for their support.
